LET US PRAY

There he sat on his front porch probably three years old
And when he flashed a merry smile, I stopped to ask his name.
“I’m my daddy’s he,” he said, grinning
And then he was off to play.
I still don’t know his name, Lord
But it doesn’t matter.
He knows who he is
And that makes everything all right.

Thank you, Lord, with all my heart
That I may say with genuine confidence
“I’m my Father’s child.”
That makes everything all right.

TOWN HALL MEETING

Our annual Town Hall meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 18th. I will send home a flyer next week, but in the meantime, please make a note of this event on your calendar. It is my sincere hope that each family is represented at this meeting as several important matters need to be shared and discussed.

Parents who have children in kindergarten are asked to meet with Mrs. Mailley in the kindergarten room at the end of the Town Hall meeting.

NEAT UNIFORM ALERT

If you purchased or ordered uniform items last week at the 10% discount rate, please check your receipt very carefully. One of our parents noticed that she has only received the discount for part of her order. If you have any concerns, please call me right away.

WALKATHON – GOOD NEWS!

This year’s walkathon was a huge success. The weather was perfect and so were our children! We had a ton of parent helpers as well as our great PPC team. The children did a great job of getting sponsors, and we’re thrilled to report that we raised the grand total of $14,000.00!

Tomorrow we will have our walkathon prize assembly. This is always great fun for the children as there are lots of prizes, draws and surprises.

INTERNET SAFETY MEETING

About thirty-five parents attended the Internet Safety meeting last night. I think they found it very informative. I have some extra handouts that I’ll leave on the main bulleting board. Please feel free to help yourselves. Thank you to the parents who made this meeting a priority.

JUNE PRO D

This is a second reminder that our June Pro D day will take place on Monday, June 9th. Please mark your calendar.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES 08-09

Our school supplies company, “Teaching Things” has been doing a great job for the last few years. Orders are filled quickly and efficiently. At St. Andrew’s, it is a requirement that all school supplies must be ordered through the school. The due date for orders is Wednesday, May 28th. Please make a point of sending your order form and cheque in on time.

TRACK AND FIELD

As you know, Mr. T. runs the track and field program at St. Andrew’s. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been well lately and has had to take time off. We’ve spoken to the students about how this will affect the program as obviously there will have to be adjustments to the practice schedule. Please bear with us – we’re doing our very best to make sure the children don’t lose out. If you can help out in any way with the track program, don’t hesitate to call! We would be grateful for your help.

PARENTS WITH PRE-SCHOOLERS

This is a last minute reminder about our Early Literacy session for children aged 3, 4 and 5 who are not yet in school. This very special event will take place tomorrow at 10:30. It is designed for parents and children. There will be a slide presentation and activities for the children. The activities will relate to literacy skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. Each child will received a gift bag of literacy supplies. Please call the office immediately if you have not signed up but would like to attend.

HOORAY FOR THE READING CLUB!

Participation in the reading club was tremendous! Almost the entire student body participated by reading for twenty-five nights. Every completed Reading Club form was entered in a draw. Congratulations to the winners:

Jamie Lozano, Grade 4
Bryan Tran, Grade 4
Yadavan Thiruchchelvam, Grade 4
Priyam Pahwa, Grade 3
Alvin Nguyen, Grade 3
Sharlene Aguirre, Kindergarten

FOOD BANK

Tomorrow is the last day of our two-week cycle for this particular CAN DO campaign. Yesterday, I talked to the children about bringing their donations on a regular basis. I still need your help, parents, in order to make this a havit. We’re not quite there yet! Each week, I will announce the class who has done the best job of filling their class bin. This week, for the third time in a row, it’s Grade 1 class. As Kristofer La Guardia told me yesterday, “Our teacher challenges us to bring our food and we keep track of our donations each week.”

Bravo, Grade Ones! I’m very proud of you for keeping your promise and honouring your commitment.

SHOP FUNDS

Today was the last day for purchasing Shop Funds for this year. You will receive your statement next week.

Have a great week.

With love,

Mrs. Mailley
