CONFIRMATION
On Wednesday, April 9th, our Grade 7 students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Archbishop Michael Miller. Please keep all of these students in your prayers as they prepare to receive the beautiful Sacrament.
LITERACY WORKSHOP
This is the very last announcement about the upcoming literacy workshop at our school. I have to be honest and tell you that I’m so disappointed in the response from parents – so far only about twelve families have registered. Our children need a firm foundation in order to build strong literacy skills, and it truly is a team effort. Parents who are informed about the role they play in their children’s education make all the difference in the world. It’s not too late if you decide you’d like to come. Please check the bulletin board for registration forms.
SPRING FAIR DONATIONS
We’re still waiting for some donations from several of our students. Please send in the $5 as soon as possible so that we can pass it on to the PPC in time for them to purchase the raffle and auction items. We hope to have a great turnout of children and parents on the day of the Fair.
If you’re interested in getting participation hours at the Fair, please call the school and let us know. There are lots of jobs to be done!
FOOD BANK UPDATE
I am so grateful to all of the parents who have helped their children make our ‘CAN DO’ project such a success. This week, the Grade 1,6,7 classes have done an outstanding job over the last two weeks. On Friday, our good friend Bob Mitchell will collect the donations and take them to the SVDP store. Remember, this is an ongoing project that the children have committed to, but we can’t keep it going without your help. All it takes is one donation each week from every child.
ST. ANDREW’S IDOL
The Student Council will meet next week to do the final preparations for the St. Andrew’s Idol concert. Please mark the date on your calendar – Wednesday, May 7th. This will be a wonderful evening of song and dance and is sure to be a great success. Tickets will be going on sale soon.
SHOP FUNDS
There are now less than two months to go in this year’s Shop Funds program. FYI – The last week of selling will be May 19th – 22nd. The week after that, we’ll send home your final statement. Those families who have not participated in the program at all will have their $100 cheque cashed in June. Families who have done some purchasing but haven’t fulfilled the $100 profit will be asked to send a cheque to cover the balance. The deadline to receive this cheque would be June 7th.
READERS ARE LEADERS
The winning team of Alyssa Kong – Taylor, Jessica Lingbaoan, Tiffani Rayo, Keanu Fernandez and Nicholas Dyer will be going to St. Patrick’s School later in April to represent the school.
SPEECH ARTS
This special event has been scheduled on April 15th and 16th. As Always, there will be some individual entries as well as class performances. Next week I will send home a schedule for parents who are planning to attend.
STUDENT LED CONFERENCES
On Thursday, April 24th we will have our annual Student-Led conferences. The children are working hard to prepare their portfolios and are excited about sharing their progress and successes with mom and dad. Next week we will send home a letter asking you to indicate your preferred time slot. We will do our best to give you the time you request.
CAMP LATONA
Along with this newsletter you will receive a flyer providing information about summer camp. The children enjoyed hearing about all the facilities available.
FSA RESULTS
Tomorrow our Grade 4 and Grade 7 parents will receive the FSA results from the tests that were administered in February. I encourage those parents to read the cover letter carefully so that the information is clear. The tests consist of three components: reading, writing and numeracy. If you have any questions about your child’s results, please feel free to call me.
WORK BEE
There will be a regular work bee this coming Saturday, April 5th. Please let Anu know if you are not able to attend. Remember, only regularly attending families will be given the benefit of full participation hours.
GRADE 2 MASS
In preparation for First Communion, our Grade 2 student and their families will attend the 5 p.m. Mass this Saturday along with the PREP students. Please keep these families in your prayers.
May God bless all of you this Easter season.
Have a wonderful week,
With love,
Mrs. Mailley
