LET US PRAY
Lord, Make me an instrument of your peace!
Where there is hatred, let me show your love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
LITERACY WORKSHOP
So far I have nine, yes nine, registrations for our April literacy workshop. Does this mean that one hundred and fifty seven of our families are not interested in learning about how their children read and write and what they can do to help?
I really hope that this is not the case. Parents, this workshop is free and you will learn so many things about how to support your child with his/her learning.
COME ON PARENTS!
I’ll leave extra registration forms on the main bulletin board.
SPRING FAIR DONATIONS
We’re still waiting for some donations from several of our students. Please send in the $5 as soon as possible so that we can pass it on to the PPC in time for them to prepare the raffle and auction items.
FOOD BANK UPDATE
Our ‘CAN DO’ project has now been running for three weeks. In that time, we have, with your help, with your help, collected hundreds of food items that have been sent to the SVDP store on Main Stree.
CAN we keep this project going?
Yes we CAN!
CHILD FIND B.C.
This is a reminder that you will have the opportunity to register your child in this program at the Spring Fair on April 26th.
ST. ANDREW’S IDOL!
Tickets were given out to students on Monday, and of course there was great excitement, but also some disappointed children. I am very grateful to Alyssa Kwong-Taylor and her team of helpers who organized the auditions. They did a great job and it was all their own work. Bravo!
SHOP FUNDS
By now you should have received your Shop Funds statement. Please note that we’re now heading into April, so if you haven’t done much purchasing, you need to get going so that you don’t end up getting your cheque cashed in June Rememeber, you’re not being asked to spend extra money, just to adjust your habits a little.
FYI – The last week of selling will be My 19th – 22nd. The week after that, we’ll send home your final statement.
PARENT-CHILD BOOKCLUB
Please check the attached flyer about this special event that’s being offered at the library. (My apologies for not including this flyer last week!) This is a wonderful opportunity for you to spend some quality time with your child, and it’s free!
READERS ARE LEADERS
This week we held the in-school competition for the Readers are Leaders project. Congratulations to the winning team who chose the really interesting team name, “Insert Group Name Here”!
Team members:
Alyssa Kwong-Taylor (captain)
Jessica Lingbaoan
Jason Pinto
Aleandrea Resoso
Jennifer Hong
Keanu Fernandez
Nicholas Dyer
Good luck, team, as you go off to represent St. Andrew’s at the Regional Competition on April 10th. Congratulations to the other two teams, No Name Brainiacs and The Ultimate Readers.
*Special thanks to Mrs. Green for all her hard work.
HOT LUNCH REMINDER
For Hot Lunch orders, we only accept cash payments. If parents send cheques, the order cannot be processed. Thank you for your cooperation.
SCHOOL PHONE
Just a friendly reminder that the school phone is not for student use, ecept in an emergency. We have students asking to use the phone for all kinds of reasons, including making arrangements for play dates! I know you will understand that our school is very busy and we only have two lines. Please remind your children that play dates, etc. need to be arranged the night before.
WINTER COLDS AND FLU
Over the last few weeks we have had to send many students home due to illness. Sometimes children are fine when they leave home but get sick as the day goes along, and that can’t be helped, but if your child is not well while he/she is still at home, please keep them home till they’re better. Often children tell us, “I was sick this morning before I left for school”.
*So far, only a very few children have come down with chicken pox. I think we got off lightly!
ARCHDIOCESE TURNS 100!
The Archdiocese of Vancouver celebrates its 100th birthday this year. After the holidays I’ll send home a flyer that will provide information about upcoming events. Later in the year, I’ll update you about other special events planned as part of the celebration.
HAPPY EASTER
All of us at St. Andrew’s wish you and your family a very Happy Easter. May God bless you during this holy season as we joyfully celebrate the Risen Lord.
Have a wonderful week.
With love,
Mrs. Mailley
