LET US PRAY

Prayer During Lent

Lord, I know how much you love me.
It’s hard for me to feel it sometimes,
But I know your love is always with me.
Help me to use your love as a way to persevere in my Lenten intentions.
I am weak, but I know with your help I can use these small
sacrifices in my life to draw closer to you.
Amen

SAS FOOD BANK

The other week I received an urgent letter from the President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In it, she asked if our school community could possibly help them with feeding the hungry who come to their door every day. (Some of you may know of their store on Main street.) At our last assembly, I read the letter to the children and all of them seemed very eager to participate in our Food Bank project. The response this week has been terrific. I provided a collection bin for each class, and tomorrow we’ll do our first delivery to the store. I need your help with one very important aspect of the program; rather than just handing a donation to your child, could you please encourage them to use a little of their allowance to buy it themselves or allow them to do an extra chore around the house to earn money so that they themselves have made the donation? Thank you so much for supporting all of us in this very worthy cause. Each week the Student Council will empty the bins and track our progress.

LITERACY WORKSHOP

You may remember that last term I surveyed parents to see how many were interested in a Literacy Workshop that we’d be offering in the spring. Please read the attached flyer, then sign and return the bottom portion if you’d like to attend.

*Space is limited, so you must register early.

VANCOUVER SYMPHONY

Yesterday our very excited primary students went downtown to hear the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. We are very grateful to Mrs. Black for making this opportunity possible for the students.

WORK BEE

Here are the work bee dates till the end of this school year:

April 5th
May 3rd
May 31st
June 14th
June 28th

Parents who are ‘regulars’, please remember to call Anu Kainth if you are unable to attend.

SPRING FAIR CONTRIBUTIONS

We’re asking each family to send a $5 contribution to be used for silent auction and raffle items at the Spring Fair. The PPC will be meeting later this month and we’d like to have all of the money collected by then. Please send in the money as soon as possible. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Remember that the majority of funds raised at the Spring Fair comes right back to the school!!!

PARENT FUND RAISING

We have some money left over from last year’s fund raising. We desperately need new computers for our new library so that the students can do research right in the library. As you know, our computer lab is nearly new, so we’d like to make sure that our library is just as well equipped. Our plan is to purchase three new computers for the research station in the library.

ST. ANDREW’S IDOL!

The Student Council would like to announce the very first St. Andrew’s Idol competition! The students are very excited about it. Many of them have already signed up for the auditions that have been scheduled for March 13th and 14th during recess and lunch hour. The categories are as follows:

· Primary solo singing
· Intermediate solo singing
· Primary and/or intermediate group dance

After the auditions, the students who have been selected for the finals will take part in an evening concert that we’ve scheduled for Wednesday, May 7th. Tickets will be going on sale about a month before the show.

SHOP FUNDS

Last week for some reason we had probably our best week of the year for Shop Funds sales, excluding Christmas. Well done to all of our buyers! The winner of the February draw is the Fournier family. The prize is a $25 card for Superstore. Congratulations!

SEXUALITY GUIDELINES BOOKLETS

Those parents who attended the recent meeting with Chuck Luttrell will be pleased to know that we now have the booklets in the school. If you would like to have one, just come to the office. The cost is just $3 per booklet. We only have fifteen, so act fast!

CONFIRMATION MEETING

This is a reminder to Grade 7 parents that this very important meeting will take place this coming Tuesday, March 11th @ 7:30 p.m. following the 7 p.m. Mass.

Have a wonderful week.

With love,

Mrs. Mailley
