LET US PRAY

The child among us is a gift,
To treasure and enfold:
A child declares the love of God
Embracing young and old

The child among us is a sign
Of how we are to be
A people of the reign of God,
Of trust and liberty.

The child among us is a way
To see the face of God:
When we receive the smallest one
We meet our cross-marked-Lord

The child among us is a guest
With us at Christ’s high feast:
With bread and wine we all are fed
And sent to serve the least.

The child among us is a pledge
Of what is soon to come
A world of justice, hope and joy
In Christ, in us, begun.

SPEECH ARTS

This is a second reminder that this year’s Archbishop Carney Speech Arts Festival have been scheduled for Tuesday, April 15th and Wednesday, April 16th. Several teachers will be taking their whole class and there will also be individual entries. This year, there will be two venues – Immaculate Conception, Vancouver and OLPH. We will let you know nearer the time where your child will be going.

WORK BEE

This Saturday we will have our regular work bee from 9 a.m. till 12 noon. Work bee team members, please call Anu if you are unable to attend.

*Just a friendly reminder that we do not permit children to come to the work bees.

GRADE 2 PARENT MEETING

The next meeting in preparation for First Communion will take place tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Luminous Hall. If your child is making their First Holy Communion, you need to attend these important meetings.

Also, students and parents are expected to be at the 5 p.m. Mass this coming Saturday, March 1st.

KINDERGARTEN INTERVIEWS

We have now interviewed most of the new families who have applied to St. Andrew’s for September 2008. If you have picked up and application for a new family, please encourage the parents to bring it in right away so that we can set up an interview time.

REGISTRATION FOR 08-09

We are presently working on the 2008-2009 registration packages and they will be sent home soon. As always, we will enclose a checklist to ensure that all the necessary information has been provided.

BOOST BC PROGRAM

Last week, all of our primary students attended a presentation by the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation. The children learned a great deal about booster seat regulations and in some cases, were weighed and measured! I’ve included a handout in this newsletter for your information. Please read it carefully as there are some upcoming changes that you need to know about. As is says on the handout, safety is not negotiable!

SPRING FAIR

• Each family is asked to send $5 which will be donated to the silent auction and/or raffle.

• Tomorrow we will be sending home a book of raffle tickets to each family. Parents, our goal this year is to get every single book of sold tickets back. Last year, we had a few books outstanding. I will speak to the children about this at tomorrow’s assembly.

• Thank you to the parents who attended the February meeting of the Spring Fair Committee. We are looking forward to our most successful fair ever!

SUPERVISION PARENTS

At this point, we are just over half way through the school year. I am most grateful to all of the parents who signed up for supervision and who have faithfully carried out their responsibilities each week. This wonderful team of parents does a superb job of caring for our children under the competent direction of Dorris Mendoza and her second-in-command, Jing Pacania. Thanks to all of you for your commitment and dedication.

The supervision team really appreciates all of the parents who comply with our ‘Go East’ policy on a daily basis.

SEXUALITY GUIDELINES PRESENTATION

Last night several of our Grade 4, 5 and 6 parents attended this important presentation. After the meeting, I spoke to quite a few of the parents and they were most impressed by what they heard from Mr. Luttrell. The information and advice that he shared are invaluable for parents with 9-12 year-old children. For those of you who didn’t attend, you missed a wonderful opportunity. Mr. Luttrell left some pamphlets which I’ll put on the bulletin board. Please feel free to take one.

Have a wonderful week.

With love,

Mrs. Mailley
