LET US PRAY
LOVE
Love is patient, love is kind,
It does not envy, it does not boast,
It is not proud, it is not rude,
It is not self-seeking,
It is not easily angered,
It keeps no record of wrongs,
Love does not delight in evil
But rejoices in the truth.
It always protects,
Always trusts,
Always hope,
Always perseveres
(St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians,
Chapter 13, vv 4-7)
MUSIC TO OUR EARS!
Thank to all of the parents who attended our concert on Tuesday evening. I’m sure that you enjoyed the wonderful singing and dancing. We are immensely proud of our students who are so talented, I would like to thank all of the staff who worked so hard to make this concert a reality:
Miss Resendes
Mrs. Black
Ms. Low
Mrs. Tokar
Miss Ignacio
Bravo to all of you for a wonderful job.
SKATING – DATE CHANGE!!
This is a second reminder of the new dates for our skating program:
Wednesday, April 2nd
Wednesday, April 9th
Wednesday, April 16th
All of these times are morning sessions. Please remember to call the office ahead of time if you can help with lace tying at the arena.
SPRING FAIR
This coming Monday, February 18th, the Spring Fair Committee will meet in the church basement at 7 p.m. If you are planning to help out at the fair in any way, including cooking, traffic patrol, working at booths etc., please make a point of attending this meeting. You will of course be able to claim the meeting time as participation.
VALENTINE CRAFTS
Special thanks to the PPC for organizing the crafts and manning the stations for this special event that took place on Monday after school. The children enjoyed the different crafts, especially the cookie decorating!
MITE BOXES
Parents, just a reminder to help your child with the Mite Box project. All funds collected will be given to Father Hien to help support vocations in our archdiocese. Mite boxes should be brought back to school during Holy Week, March 17th-20th. Every little bit helps!
FIRST CONFESIONS
A reminder to Grade 2 parents that First Confessions will take place on Saturday, February 16th at 10 a.m. Parents, please note that when you arrive at church, you will be seated in order, so first come first served! Father Joseph has arranged for several priests to help him out, so we expect that the whole ceremony will last approximately forty-five minutes.
All of the St. Andrew’s community celebrate with the children as they receive this beautiful Sacrament.
Dress code – The children should wear dress clothes for this occasion.
PRO D REMINDER
This coming Monday and Tuesday, February 18th and 19th, are Pro D Days. There will be no classes for students. The staff will be attending the annual Catholic Educators’ Conference in Vancouver. We look forward to two days of spirituality, learning and networking with other staffs in the CISVA.
HELP NEEDED – URGENT
Mrs. Mendoza needs two parents who would be willing to help with supervision, one for the 2:30 till 3:00 p.m. slot on Wednesdays and the other for the 12 till 1 p.m. slot on Fridays. If you are looking for hours and would be willing to help us out, please call Mrs. Mendoza right away at 604 301 1610. I know she’ll be thrilled to hear from you.
UNIFORM LABELLING TIP
One of our parents was telling me the other day that she labels her children’s school sweaters by writing their names on the back of the school crest. That way, if the label comes off she can still identify the sweater. Last week we empties out the Lost and Found bins. Mrs. Alabazo kindly washed the uniform items and I now have several unclaimed sweaters in the office. Please come in and see me if your child is missing a sweater.
POETRY CONTEST
The following students took first place in their grade for this year’s Catholic Schools Week poetry contest:
Grade 1 – Aleeza Ebuenga
Grade 2 – Sarah Tompkins
Grade 3 – Marcus Leeson
Grade 4 – Kevin Amores
Grade 5 – Aidan Lee
Grade 6 – Mhicaella Lopez
Grade 7 – Alyssa Kwong-Taylor
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
Tomorrow we will have the closing ceremonies for this very special week in the school year. The children have enjoyed wonderful prayer services, special events such as salsa dancing and the Choe Walk, and have had fun participating in the “Who’s the Baby?” contest. Yes, all of the staff were gorgeous babies! (If you don’t believe me, take a look at the bulletin board at the west end of the school.)
Happy Valentine’s Day to each one of you.
Have a wonderful week.
With love,
Mrs. Mailley
