LET US PRAY

I have decided to follow Jesus
I have decided to follow Jesus,
I have decided to follow Jesus.
No turning back, no turning back.
Tho’ no one join me, still I will follow,
Tho’ no one join me, still I will follow,
No turning back, no turning back.
The world behind me, the Cross before me,
No turning back, no turning back.

LAST CALL!

This is the very last announcement about kindergarten registration. We presently have seven siblings registered. If you have a child who will be entering kindergarten in September, please come in to the office right away! At this point, we have twelve spots left.

ASH WEDNESDAY

We are quickly approaching the season of Lent. On Ash Wednesday, February 6th, we will have Mass at 9 0’clock. At the end of Mass, the children will receive their ashes.

SKATING

Our Grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 students will once again be participating in the skating program at Sunset Arena. We have booked March 12th and 19th. Further details will be provided soon. Please mark these dates on your calendar. We would greatly appreciate help from parents as there is much lace tying to be done!

“A LITTLE NIGHT OF MUSIC”

As I mentioned last week, Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated in our school from February 11th – 15th. We are thrilled to announce that many of our students will be involved in a special Catholic Schools Week concert. We have scheduled the concert for Tuesday, February 12th. All parents are welcome. Cost – just a toonie a ticket. All money raised will go to the Variety Club Telethon. Tickets can be purchased at the school office, starting tomorrow. Featured performances:

Get your tickets ASAP – They’ll go fast!

PREPARING FOR SACRAMENTS

The next few weeks are going to be busy ones for our Grade 2 and Grade 7 classes. The Grade 2 class will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on February 16th and First Communion on May 3rd. The Grade 7 class will be Confirmed by Archbishop Miller on Wednesday, April 9th. Please keep all of these students in your prayers as they prepare for these very special occasions.

A GENTLE REMINDER

We have notices that a few families are still dropping off and picking up students on the north side of 47th Avenue, facing west. Our school policy is “GO EAST!” Please comply with the policy so that our hard working parent supervisors can do their job without having to worry about children running across the road.

UNIFORM POLICY

Beginning this week, we will be sending home letters informing parents if a child is missing a particular uniform item or wearing non-uniform clothing. This includes P.E. uniform. Several students have repeatedly arrived at gym class without their full P.E. uniform and are therefore unable to fully participate in the class that Mr T. has planned for that day. Please discuss this important policy with your child and remind them of their responsibility. If you have any concerns or need to discuss this matter with me, please don’t hesitate to come in and see me.

FSA TESTS

Our Grade 4 and Grade 7 students have been practicing in preparation for the Foundation Skills Assessment tests that are scheduled for the weeks of February 4th and 11th. These tests are B.C. wide and are mandated by the Ministry of Education. Test results will be sent out to parents in late March/early April.

MITE BOXES

This week we received a letter from the Vocations Directors, Father Hien and Father Thomas, inviting us to participate in the Lenten Mite Box Project. This year, we’ll have a special ‘Blessing of the Mite Boxes’ service before sending the boxes home. Please help your children to make this project a success. All of the funds raised go towards supporting the seminarians in the Archdiocese. I have posted their pictures on the main bulletin board. Please keep all of them in your prayers.

KINDERGARTEN SWITCH

Our a.m. and p.m. kindergarten classes will do their ‘switch’ on Monday, February 4th. A very special thank you to Mrs. Casapao whose son Jaiden will be switching to the afternoon class. She has very kindly agreed to continue doing her morning slot on the supervision schedule. We are most grateful!

INCOME TAX RECEIPTS – VERY IMPORTANT!

Today you will be receiving your income tax receipt. Please call the office immediately if your child does not bring the envelope home.

Have a wonderful week.

With love,

Mrs. Mailley
