LET US PRAY
Bless the Touch
Lord just a word, just a look,
Can heal the hurt that people feel.
A silent presence, a hug, a smile,
Can do the work of many words.
The healing power of your dear Son
Is in our hands in the prayers we share,
In what we think and in all we do.
So let our presence be the healing that is
needed as you bless our words,
Our touching,
Or silent sharing of grief.

REPEAT ANNOUNCEMENT
We are presently accepting applications for the 2008-2009 kindergarten class. If you have any children who will be eligible for kindergarten (born in 2003) please come into the office right away and fill out an application form. Also, please inform any friends or relatives who may be interested in applying to St. Andrew’s that they should come to the school office at their earliest convenience. We will be happy to answer any questions they may have.
INCOME TAX RECEIPTS
We are hoping to have the income tax receipts ready by early next week. Please check that all the information on your receipt is correct and call the school immediately if there are any problems.
COUPLES FOR CHRIST
RETREAT/DINNER DANCE
Please take a flyer about this upcoming event from the foyer bulleting board. Toto Tajonera and Ken Fong are hoping for a great turnout and strong representation from St. Andrew’s School parents.
SKATING
Our Grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 students will be participating in the skating program in March. Times and dates will be provided in next week'’ newsletter. We would very much appreciate help from parents with this event.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
All of us are looking forward to Catholic Schools Week which is scheduled for the week of February 11th. The committee has planned many special events and activities, including daily prayer services, a Valentine poetry contest, and of course, the Choe Walk. This year we are delighted to announce that one of the highlights of this special week will be an evening concert featuring our primary and intermediate choirs as well as some surprises! Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 12th.
LITERACY EVENING
When we did our survey back in October, many parents indicated that they would like to participate in a literacy evening. Within the next two weeks, I will send home a registration form. Space will be limited, so remember to sign up fast when the registration forms come home!
SHOP FUNDS REMINDER
Now that Christmas is over and most of the bills have been paid (hopefully!), it’s time for us to get back on track with our Shop Funds program. Today you will receive an updated order form.
HELP WANTED
We’re looking for a parent or parents who would be willing to be den mother or den father for the remaining three skiing days. This involves helping out with equipment at the beginning of the day then staying in the lodge in case of student injuries or illness. Please call the office right away if you can help.
GRADE 2 PARENT MEETINGS
Four meetings have been scheduled over the next few weeks as our students and their families prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion. The first parent meeting will be on Wednesday, January 30th at 7 p.m. Grade 2 parents are expected to attend every meeting so that the whole family can be properly prepared.
BASICS FOR BABIES
We are very happy to report that all the generous donations of baby items that you sent in went to a very worthy cause. Many young mothers have benefited from your kindness. Thank you so much.
IMPORTANT DATES
In February all of our staff will attend the annual CISVA Catholic Educators’ Conference. The dates for this year are Monday, February 18th and Tuesday, February 19th. There will be no classes for students on those dates.
MORNING MASS
This morning I attended Mass at 8.15. It was so encouraging and uplifting to see so many of our students there. Congratulations to the many parents who make a point of going to Mass with their children. It’s what we do that counts, not what we say we’ll do! Please note that there is no longer a morning Mass on Tuesdays.
ALTAR SERVERS
Many of our students are on the monthly schedule for serving on the altar at morning Mass. Each student is given a copy of the schedule and each day at 3 p.m. we announce the next day’s servers. In spite of this, several students have great difficulty meeting their commitment. If your child is an altar server, please support him/her by reminding them of their responsibility and have them place their schedule in a central spot in your home. Thank you for your cooperation. If we work together, we can raise responsible citizens.
Have a wonderful week.
With love,
Mrs. Mailley
