LET US PRAY
This week’s prayer is in response to the harsh and sometimes violent world we live in:
Jesus, today we look to your example for setting priorities in our lives. You could have sought power; instead, you lived a humble life. You could have associated with the rich and mighty; instead, you chose to be with the poor and sick. You could have had any material pleasure; instead, you sought to help others fund faith. You could have conquered any nation with power and violence; instead, you sought peace and justice. In doing this you asked us to do the same for the least of our brothers and sisters, as we would wish done for ourselves. Let us follow your example, Jesus, and embrace the virtues and values you lived out. Amen.
UNIFORM NEWS
Yesterday, I met with the owner of Neat Uniforms. One of the points I brought to his attention was the quality of the sweaters. Many of you had expressed concerns about the quality. He is going to provide me with a sample similar to the quality we had before. I am hopeful that we can come up with a better product.
SATURDAY WORK BEE
Thanks to the great team of parents who have faithfully attended every work bee so far. The next work bee is scheduled for November 24th @ 9 a.m.
PARISH FEAST DAY
Tickets are beginning to go quickly for the dinner on Saturday, December 1st. At this point, I strongly suggest that you order your tickets soon to avoid disappointment.
*If your child is singing in the choir for this occasion and you’re not planning to stay for dinner, please note that you will be given a special ticket that will allow you into the gym to hear the performance.
SHOP FUNDS NEWS
There are only two weeks left for ordering from the large pink Christmas sheet. Please remember that the deadline for ordering is 9 a.m. on November 30th. There will be the regular monthly draw in December as well as a special draw for the Christmas orders ($50 certificate for Safeway).
Our profit for September and October was $3,348. At the end of the term, we’ll update you on our profits for all of term one.
To all of our parents who have supported the Shop Funds program so loyally, thank you so very much.
HOT LUNCH DATES
Hot Lunch dates till the end of this term are: November 28th and December 12th. Thanks to all of the parents who have contributed to the success of the Hot Lunch program under the direction of Divine Hipolito.
SPRING FAIR
We will be looking for lots of help this year from parents. This year, there is a choice of five teams you may choose from:
1. Theme and decorations
2. Games
3. Corporate Sponsors
4. Food
5. Prizes
If you are interested in being part of this team of parents, please make sure you attend the next Spring Fair meeting, date TBA.
REACHING OUT TO THOSE IN NEED
Next week, I’ll send home a list of items requested by the Sisters of Atonement. As most of you know, at St. Andrew’s each class selects a specific item to collect (e.g. socks, shampoo, toothpaste). It is really important that the children become involved in these types of projects so that they can learn how to share what they have with those in need. Please make a point of allowing your child to use their own money and do the purchasing of their item so that they truly feel they have played a part in this worthwhile project. An item list will be sent home within the next few days.
FIRST TERM REPORTS
The reports for term one will be sent home on Friday, December 7th.
REMEMBRANCE DAY ASSEMBLY
Last week the Grade 4 class hosted our Remembrance Day assembly. Mrs. Frost and her class did a wonderful presentation and we were very proud of them. Several parishioners from the Seniors group attended as well.
Some of our students responded by writing poetry. Here is a wonderful example of what they wrote:
Peace is like a little dove
Flying high from the pale blue sky above.
If peace is not around the world
Please make it be a God of love.
If the poppies grow among the hills
Then love will stand completely still.
By Amayah Kuehn, Grade 2
Congratulations, Amayah! You are a true poet.
PRIMARY CHRISTMAS PLAY
Our primary students are already hard at work in preparation for the Christmas Play. There will be two performances: A matinee on Wednesday, December 19th at 1 p.m. and an evening performance on Thursday, December 20th. This year, we will be selling tickets for the evening performance so that we can make a donation to Covenant House. Tickets will go on sale the first week of December.
REMINDER
Our feast day holiday this year will be on Monday, November 26th. There will be no classes for staff and students.
Have a wonderful week,
With love,
Mrs. Mailley
