LET US PRAY

Our Grade Sixes recently wrote poems and letters about Our Lady and about Thanksgiving. I was so impressed with what they wrote and I thought you would enjoy reading some of them:

Dear God,

This month I thank you for our Blessed Mother

who loves and guides us. We thank you for giving

us good parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and

teachers. We thank you for all the food and shelter.

I make this prayer through Mary our

Mother and Jesus our Saviour.

by Mike D'Rozario

A Poem to Mary

Dear Mary,

I bring you roses because they are sweet

But lilies, my favorite flowers,

I'm placing at your feet.

Please accept with each Hail Mary a

rose for your crown so bright

Please don't forget the lilies,

The lilies so pure and white.

Let them be a bond of love and

understanding that's very rare,

And send a blessing from above in answer to my prayer.

SATURDAY WORK BEE

Our next Saturday work bee will take place this coming Saturday at 9 a.m. Please call the Work Bee Coordinator, Anu Kainth, if you're planning to attend (cell # 604-307-3880). It is important that the Work Bee team arrives on time as jobs are assigned right at 9 a.m. Please remember that you can still be part of the work bee even if you haven't come before. Just make a quick phone call to Anu and she'll put you on her list.

SHOP FUNDS

Just a reminder that Shop Funds order forms are stored on the bulletin board in the foyer of the school. Thanks to the parents who have been buying Shop Funds so faithfully over the last few weeks. If you haven't begun purchasing yet, come on in Friday at 3 p.m. or send your order in by Thursday morning. The year goes past so quickly!

WORKING TOGETHER TOWARDS LITERACY

As you know, we have been building up our reading resources over the last while. The staff has been discussing the possibility of a parent information evening so that parents could learn how to support their child's reading development as well as learn some important reading strategies. This event would probably be held in the new year. Next week I'll send home a short survey to see if enough parents are interested.

BOOK FAIR

Just a reminder that our annual Book Fair has been scheduled for the week of October 22nd. We will need help from parents to ensure that the Book Fair runs smoothly. Mrs. Green has already heard from some parents who'd like to help, but we do need some more names.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Last Friday we sent home the forms for parent/teacher conferences. Please make a point of returning the form promptly so that we can set up our interview schedule. Also, although the meetings are brief, just fifteen minutes, they are extremely important.

NEAT UNIFORMS

Slowly but surely we're getting the back orders in from Neat Uniforms. I hope you found last week's letter helpful in explaining the reason for the delay. Always keep your uniform receipts in a safe place in case there are ever any problems iwth any items of clothing.

GOSPEL BAND PERFORMANCE

St. Andrew's Parish is hosting a performance by the Flames Beyond Glory Gospel Band on Saturday evening, November 24th in the gym. Tickets are $12 each and they can be purchased at the school office. Come out and bring the family to support Father Hien.

ST. ANDREW'S STUDENT COUNCIL

It gives me great pleasure to introduce our new Student Council for the 2007-2008 school year:

2008 Student Council
President John Bregania
Vice President Christian Arenzana
Secretary Hannah Valeriano
Treasurer Aldin Agustin
Primary Rep Jason Pinto
Social Justice Rep Alyssa Kwong Taylor
Publicity Rep Nikko Cano

The Council was elected by the intermediate students, and I know that they will make all of us proud throughout the year by their leadership and good example.

Congratulations to all of them!

PICTURE DAY REMINDER

Next Monday, October 15th, if Picture Day at St. Andrew's. Please make sure that your child is in full school uniform, including a sweater. The 'retake' day is scheduled for November 5th. Parents, please note that retakes are only in the event of obvious errors, e.g., students having their eyes closed in their photograph. Last year, we had far too many retakes for no good reason.

Have a wonderful week,

With love,

Mrs. Mailley
