LET US PRAY
Senses Prayer
Father,
We thank you for the gift of our senses which you have given us.
Thank you for eyes to see the beauty of the world you created and all the different colours of the rainbow.
Thank you for ears to hear the sounds you have made. We can hear the loud sound of the wind and the soft sound of a kitten purring.
Thank you for the sense of taste to have a glass of cold lemonade on a hot summer day or a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter night.
Thank you for the smells around us. We can smell the scent of lilacs blooming in the spring. We can smell a fire of burning leaves in the fall.
Thank you for the gift of touch. We can feel the soft touch of a little puppy or a warm hug from someone we love.
Thank you, God, for helping us to know the world around us through the gift of our senses.
WORK BEE CORRECTION NOTICE
Please note that the next Saturday work bee will take place on October 13th, and not on October 27th as stated on the October calendar.
If you need to get in touch with the Work Bee Coordinator, Anu Kainth, please call her at 604 325 9482, or on her cell phone at 604 307 3880. The work bee begins at 9 am and it is important that participants be on time as job assignments are decided at this time.
IT'S READY!!!
We are thrilled to announce that our beautiful new playground is now ready for the children to use. Today, each class had the chance to check it out. As you know, our existing playground has not been useable for a long time as our school was a construction site for the past couple of years. We've now had a safety inspection done on both the new and existing toys and w're good to go!
I am go grateful to the Aguirre family, Ted and Precy, for their commitment to our school and thir determination to get the job done. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude. I know that the children of St. Andrew's will enjoy the playground for many years to come. In the near future we will install a plaque to acknowledge this very special donation.
SHOP FUNDS
We are delighted to report that our profit for the month of September was $1,487.22. We're off to a great start! This morning, the Student Council President, John Bregania, picked out the winning name for the September draw. Congratulations to the Camales family who win a Canuck's lunch bag, both items donated by Ruth Fernandez. Remember that each family who purchases Shop Funds will have their name entered in the draw at the end of each month, regardless of the amount purchased.
WORKING TOGETHER TOWARDS LITERACY
As you know, we have purchased great new reading resources for our students over the last few years. This month, the new Grade 4 resources will be arriving. They're newly published, hot off the press, and I know that the students will enjoy using them. These resources have been carefully chosen to provide the best possible learning opportunities for the children. Hopefully, they'll be here in time for our parent/teacher interviews.
LIVING ROSARY
Last Monday, our staff and students participated in the Living Rosary to mark the beginning of the month of the Rosary and to honour Our Lady. The children were very reverent and respectful. Special thanks to Ms. Low for her careful preparations.
BOOK FAIR
Just a reminder that our annual Book Fair has been scheduled for the week of October 22nd. We will need help from parents to ensure that the Book Fair runs smoothly. In next week's newsletter I will let you know the exact times and dates available.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Tomorrow we'll be sending home the information about our upcoming parent/teacher interviews. These are extremely important so please make every effort to let us know your choice of time so that we can set up the schedule quickly and get back to you.
NEAT UNIFORMS
As I mentioned in last week's newsletter, I met with the team from Neat Uniforms last week and we discussed the delays that happened this year and the inconvenience that they caused. Bit by bit, the back orders are coming in. Bit by bit, the back orders are coming in. Please see the attached letter from the company as this will provide a full explanation of the problems we encountered. You will notice that there's a special offer, 20% off, that runs till January. Another important advantage of the new system is that you won't have to wait for your order. All uniform items will be in stock year round. This means that we'll no longer have a uniform measuring day at the school.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
There will be no school on Monday as it is the Thanksgiving holiday. We have so much to give thanks for. Enjoy this special time with your family and we'll see you on Tuesday.
Have a wonderful week,
With love,
Mrs. Mailley
