LET US PRAY
Bodily Blessed
You are the Body of Christ
Go and be hands:
Reaching out to the needy;
Holding the friendliness;
And willinly receiving God's love.
Go and feel feet:
Walking the extra mile;
Striving for others;
And humbly letting Jesus wash you.
Go and be tongues:
Chatting the Good News;
Welcoming All;
And allowing God's Spirit to speak to you.
You are the Body of Christ.
Praise God.

ALTAR SERVERS MEETING
Last Sunday Father Joseph met with trained altar servers as well as boys and girls interested in becoming altar servers. More than sixty students attended. What a great turnout! Today was the deadline for applications. For those parents whose children are beginning teir training, please remember that this is a very important commitment. If your child is on the schedule for Masses, they must be there on time and serve faithfully.
SATURDAY WORK BEE
St. Andrew's School was certainly a busy place last Saturday! Inside the school we had a great group of parents who worked hard in each classroom from 9 a.m. till noon. Outside, a group of dads completed the groundwork for our new playground that will be installed next Saturday.
To all those terrific parents, thank you for your hard work and commitment. It was so encouraging to see all of you there. BRAVO!
The in-school work bee was the first regularly scheduled work bee. There will be one each month for the rest of this school year.
We could use a few more people on the team. If you'd like to have your name added to the list, please call the Work Bee Coordinator, Anu Kainth, at 604 325-9482.
SUPERVISION
We are proud to announce that our supervision program is running smoothly. The parents on this team have made a serious commitment to this important safety issue in our school and they are truly making difference.
Way to go, team!
PLEASE NOTE: The west gate will no longer be locked as it is a safety concern in case we need to exit.
SHOP FUNDS
We will no longer be sending home order forms each week to each family. Instead, we'll send home a new form with each order. Also, we've put a supply on the bulletin board in the main foyer. Please help yourself when you need one. At the end of this week, all those families who participated in the Shop Funds program will have their name entered in a draw. This month's prize has been donated by Ruth Fernandez, our Shop Funds coordinator. Don't miss out on the chance to win!
LITERACY UPDATE
The staff has been working hard on all aspects of the literacy program at St. Andrew's. We have purchased great new reading materials for all of the primary grades and this year, we'll be purchasing new materials for the intermediate grades, starting with Grade 4. Our goal is to provide our students with a strong foundation in all aspects of literacy so that they will be proficient readers, writers, speakers and thinkers.
LIVING ROSARY
This year we will pray the Living Rosary on Monday, October 1st at 9 a.m. As you know, October is the month of the Rosary, so it is appropriate that we begin this special month by honouring our Holy Mother. Throughout the month, the children will be participating in special activities in honour of Our Lady.
IMPORTANT DATES TO NOTE
October 3rd - CISVA Cross Country Meet
October 5th - School Mass
October 9th - Holday (Thanksgiving)
October 12th - Picture Day
October 18th - Parent/teacher interviews
October 26th - Pro D (no classes for students)
** Please see the attached calendar for October. I have shaded the days that are holidays.
BOOK FAIR
This year our Book Fair has been scheduled for the week of October 22nd. We will need help to run the Book Fair. Please check the next two newsletters for further details.
RUMMAGE SALE
There will be a rummage sale in St. Andrew's Gym this coming Saturday, September 29th, from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. This event is sponsored by the C.W.L. and all proceeds go towards buying the missals for the church.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
As you can see on the October calendar, these important conferences have been scheduled for Thursday, October 18th. This is a chance for parents to meet with the teachers for the first time in a private setting. Since the meetings are just a few minutes long, it is very important that each family be on time as the schedules are tightly packed. We need to stick to our schedule as closely as possible. We find these meetings to be most helpful as it is an opportunity for the teachers to share important information about each child, and just as importantly, to hear from parents about issues concerning their child.
Parents, if there are any matters that you need to inform your child's teacher about, please do not hesitate to call and make an appointment. All of the staff are very accommodating and will work with you to arrange a suitable time whenever necessary.
Have a wonderful week,
With love,
Mrs. Mailley
